Food – Women – Networking

Welcome to femHQ!
I am here to talk to you about food and all things related. But before we start on Food I wanted to briefly talk about women and networking.
I love how as women we bridge that 6 degrees of separation gap so quickly. When we meet we make connections and use them to network.
What are the consequences of bridging that gap so quickly?
We gain understanding and trust. We see how we are connected and decide whether we warm to others or not.
We pass on information and knowledge that allows us to learn more and share what we already know.
If I need a service or to make a purchase or a decision and I am uncertain I will usually put it out there amongst my friend and acquaintance network circle.
Ie ‘Does anyone know a good Plumber?’
This is why networking is so important. Even with all the endless possibilities that are now available on line we often still rely on the opinions of the people we know and trust. We want to know that others have used and were satisfied with a certain service.
And that’s where femHQ comes in! A forum where we can all ask questions and share information.
I am going to cover all sorts of topics related to Food. I have been in the Hospitality Industry for over 25 years. During this time I have had a very varied amount of experience from working in Hotels, to running and then owning restaurants, working on boats, Catering, food styling and contributing to several cook books. I have also taught cookery privately and at TAFE. As well as this my interest in food has changed as my life has changed. In the early days I was interested in food as fashion, and food culture. Travelling to countries to gain firsthand knowledge of traditional dishes and how the ‘locals’ cook them. And later as a restaurant owner, regularly playing with concepts, fashions and ideas to vary my menu as much as I could.
Later, as I started a family I started to become more interested in nutrition and food as medicine. Looking at varying diets and avoiding too much processed food. This is not always easy as being a working Mum means you are often time poor and sometimes need to cut corners. And then I had the third child who evolved into being an extremely fussy eater.
I love food. If I’m not cooking it or eating it, I’m reading about it or thinking about it! I hope that you will share your thoughts and interests with me as we discuss all things food related!
